Centre for Integrated Genomic Medical Research
The Centre for Integrated Genomic Medical Research (CIGMR) provides a scientific and technical foundation on which post-genome knowledge is being translated into applied clinical research and healthcare.
CIGMR has developed expertise in genetic epidemiology and a resource infrastructure that enables high-quality research into important common diseases that have a complex basis in the interaction of multiple genes and environmental factors.
CIGMR manages its own highly productive programme of research, with an emphasis on collaboration. It has developed a comprehensive resource of expertise, facilities, equipment and clinical material and data that enables fully integrated research to be carried out in one place. These scientific services give complete support to researchers from initial advice on study design through sample collection, processing and storage to statistical analysis.
The Centre is a founder member of P3G, a consortium that promotes international collaboration in population-based genetic research, the North West Post Genome Consortium and is actively involved in the development of systems biology in the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre.

Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology
The University of Manchester has been awarded £6.4 million by the BBSRC and EPSRC to open a biocentre that will revolutionise the way future medicines are produced - making them safer and more effective. The Manchester Centre for Integrative Systems Biology (MCISB) will pioneer an entirely new approach to biology that will not only help pharmaceutical companies develop better drugs but potentially reduce the time it takes to produce them.
The centre will pioneer the development of new technologies in systems biology - a new approach to genomics that uses complex computational and mathematical analysis to advance on traditional methods.
