Doctoral Training Partnership Awards

The University of Manchester is one of the largest and most successful centres for biological and biotechnological focused research and training in Europe. Researchers span the Faculties of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Medical and Human Sciences and receive more BBSRC funding than any other university in the UK.

The BBSRC is in the process of establishing 10-15 Doctoral Training Partnerships across the UK to provide PhD training in areas of strategic relevance to the BBSRC. The University of Manchester has submitted a bid for DTP status and we anticipate appointing around 25-40 PhD students to start in September 2012. The DTP scheme will provide students with excellent cross-disciplinary research training in line with the current BBSRC strategy for research support and training.

The application deadline for studentships starting in September 2012 has now passed. We anticipate inviting applications for 2013 studentships from October 2012. Studentships provide funding for fees and stipend at the Research Council UK rate (eligible UK/EU applicants).

Projects will be supervised by an inter-disciplinary team of academic staff and are grouped within three broad themes:
