Year of entry: 2015
Degree awarded: MD
Duration: 24 months (FT); 48 months (PT)
Applicants for admission must hold an MBChB degree or equivalent medical degree.
Applicants from overseas who do not hold a primary medical degree from a university in the UK or Ireland, should email the School of Medicine Graduate Office Email: email@example.com for an assessment as to whether their medical qualification would be acceptable to the University.
Course fees: For entry in the academic year beginning September 2015, the tuition fees are as follows:
UK/EU students (per annum): £4,052-£18,500 per annum
International students (per annum): £19,000-£31,500 per annum
UK/EU students (per annum): £2,026-£9,250
International students (per annum): £9,500-£15,750 per annum
Applicants who are classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes may be eligible to pay the equivalent Home tuition fee rate. To qualify for this tuition fee applicants must hold a valid NHS contract with a University of Manchester affiliated NHS Trust for each full 12-month registration period. Applicants should note that this subsidised fee can only be applied to the MD programme and any change of programme will require the full international fee to be paid.
Please note for the majority of projects where experimentation requires further resource: higher fee bands (where quoted) will be charged rather than the base rate for supervision, administration and computational costs. The fees quoted above will be fully inclusive and, therefore, you will not be required to pay any additional bench fees or administration costs.
All fees for entry will be subject to yearly review and incremental rises per annum are also likely over the duration of the course for UK/EU students (fees are typically fixed for International students, for the course duration at the year of entry). For general fees information please visit: postgraduate fees . Always contact the Graduate Office if you are unsure which fee applies to your project.

Applicants for the MD degree will only be admitted onto the programme following their registration with the General Medical Council.
Overseas candidates will need to demonstration that an equivalent period of clinical training has occurred after the award of their medical qualification. Please note, where projects require GMC registration it is the responsibility of the student to arrange this. Further information can be found via the GMC website .
Applicants also require a University of Manchester academic supervisor. A project proposal for the MD has to be discussed and agreed with that supervisor and approved by a postgraduate committee in the relevant research group. Prior to submitting a formal MD application candidates are strongly encouraged to discuss their research proposal with their academic supervisor and have ethical approval in progress.
If a suitable academic supervisor is not immediately identifiable candidates can search the Faculty Institute sites to identify a suitable research centre and academic. All academic staff have extensive profiles providing a summary of their current research and publications. Applicants should contact the academic concerned with an updated CV and brief abstract outline of their MD study proposal.
Once a suitable supervisor has been identified and they have agreed to consider your full application, the MD Guidance for Applicants (pdf, 47KB) document should be read through, followed by a formal application.
Early application is advisable
