Imaging Facilities

Our facilities

The University of Manchester's Imaging Facilities were established to provide researchers across Manchester with the means to undertake methodological, biological, clinical and pre-clinical research in purpose-built facilities with state-of-the-art equipment, supported by some of the most advanced chemical and data analysis equipment available.

The Imaging Facilities are based across three sites within Manchester; the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre (WMIC) is based at the Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust site (South Manchester), the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility and Imaging Sciences Research Group (Stopford Building) are both based on the University central campus and the 3T MR unit sits within the Salford Royal Foundation Trust. The WMIC serves as the hub for the Imaging Facilities Grouping and the WMIC is also the base for the Cancer & Enabling Sciences Research School, within which the Imaging Facilities are administered.

The Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre houses 4 x PET scanners (clinical and preclinical) and a 1.5T MRI scanner, the WTCRF/ Stopford building house a 1.5T and 7T MRI scanners respectively and the Salford Royal Foundation Trust has a 3T MRI scanner.
