New Preclinical PET/CT Scanner to be installed at WMIC

April 2010

A new preclinical PET/CT scanner (Siemens Inveon) is to be installed at the WMIC in May 2010 after securing funding from various sources. The new scanner will be run alongside the established HIDAC PET camera and will allow a substantial broadening of the ongoing preclinical research areas: Stem cell therapy in childhood neurological malignancies. Integrated cancer biomarker research for diagnosis, patient selection and monitoring of response to therapy. Impact of peripheral inflammation on cerebrovascular disease. Neuro-degenerative disorders. Neurophysiology of pain caused by degenerative joint disease (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis) Imaging Methodology Arterial sampling protocols, Image derived Input Functions, kinetic modelling, tracer reproducibility studies and characterisation of disease models For more information regarding preclinical imaging studies please contact the preclinical team.
