The Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre appoints Professor Alan Jackson as Director
July 2010
After four successful years, Professor Karl Herholz has stepped down as Director of the Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre. He has overseen the development of several new tracers for use in the Centre; the expansion into MRI scanning and oncology research; and the continued growth of neurology research alongside several other exciting developments. Professor Herholz is staying on as Associate Director at the Centre to concentrate on driving his own dementia programme forward.
Professor Herholz will be replaced as Director by Professor Alan Jackson, Professor of Radiology, who will continue the expansion of oncology imaging research within the Centre and across the Imaging Facilities, on 1 August 2010. He will continue to focus on the work undertaken with the Manchester Cancer Research Centre and the local NHS Trusts, along with the Centre's many commercial partners, developing translational imaging research.
Professor Jackson's research interests are in the use of modern clinical imaging systems for diagnosis, classification and therapeutic planning in patients with malignancy or other diseases of the head and neck and, more recently, in the use of MRI and PET in cancer drug development.
