WMIC becomes the only UK site to scan with new tracer AV-45
September 2009
Commercial amyloid imaging tracer now available for use.
Scientists at WMIC are involved in a study to evaluate the imaging characteristics of a new tracers for imaging and comparing the brains of subjects with frontotemporal dementia and Alzheimer's disease. It is anticipated that the new tracer which is being used in collaboration with a commercial partner will have the potential to become widely used in the clinic and become an essential tool in the diagnosis of different types of dementia.
The study is being led by Professor Karl Herholz, Professoe of Clinical Neuroscience and Director of WMIC. The study also requires the involvement of healthy volunteers, as well as patients recruited from the Cerebral Function Unit (CFU) at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust.
The Wolfson Molecular Imaging Centre is the only site in the UK, and one of only three outside of the USA, which is currently using this compound in human subjects. For more information, please contact us.
