Expectations
What can I get from the course?
This question depends upon your current level of knowledge with Microsoft Word and
what you want to achieve from these tutorials.
- At the very most - If you take each unit in turn and practice these
skills you will gain a thorough understanding of the formatting techniques available
to you in MS Word. These skills will enable you to develop and maintain your thesis
document(s) to a high standard.
- As a minimum - If you skimmed tutorial sections 1 - 5 and then
used the instructions in unit 6, you would have a document based on a template that
adheres to the
University of Manchester 'Guidance for the Presentation of Theses' formatting requirements.
The MHS Graduate Training Team recommend that you take each unit in turn so that
you gain a full understanding of the features available to you in MS Word.
How long should it take me?
It will depend on your current level of skill with computers generally and with
Word in particular. You should be able to work through each topic, watching the
demonstration videos in each section, testing your skills and applying your skills
in 2-3 hours.
What do I need to do?
Review the syllabus and then use the navigation menu,
both on the left and at the bottom of each page, to view each unit. You don't have to complete them all if you have previous experience.
